Rachel van der Merwe

Rachel van der Merwe

Producer

When Johnny Cash wrote "I've been everywhere," he must have had Rachel in mind. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Rachel has wandered her way across the globe through five of the continents exploring countless cultures, collecting beauty and discovering knowledge wherever it lies. In 2003, Rachel relocated to the US, eventually settling in sunny Los Angeles where she works today.

Her work as a producer is already being recognized internationally, screening at festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand in France, and the Sapporo Short Fest in Japan. As one of the producers of Dean Yamada's last Japanese films, "Persimmon", Rachel became part of Cicada's development from the very beginning.
